NW based painter Syd Bee is influenced by the lurid delights of horror cinema imagery and the lowbrow pop aesthetics of mid century comics that focused on the campily macabre. Her work often focuses on the femme fatale side of horror, ranging from inviting, lush glamour ghouls seductively greeting you, to pensive beauties with various creatures of the night acting as symbolic familiars. For this show, “Violet Peril”, Bee expands her visual storytelling to create a visual narrative tale rooted in fun rock and roll sleaze and vampiric glamour to create a tale of acceptance of the self and camaraderie found within that.

Bright, radiating colors are particularly appealing to me, and I find them to be powerfully psychological and emotional. In my own work, I enjoy marrying moody concepts with vibrant palettes.
