Roq La Rue is pleased to offer a small selection of sold-out edition prints by Mark Ryden. These are direct from Porterhouse archives (not secondary market). Please contact us with any questions or inquiries! All are signed with certificates of authenticity.

Mark Ryden is one of the top artists in not just the Pop Surrealism movement, but the art world in general. His paintings blend cultural retro-kitsch with esoteric imagery and symbolism. Pop culture and historical icons stand in for archetypes that ping against the subconscious, while big-eyed girls are often stand in for divine spirits. His work is meant to invoke a sense of mystery and wonder, rather than blatant messaging.

Mark Ryden received a BFA in 1987 from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. His paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide, including a career-spanning retrospective "Cámara de las Maravillas" at The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo of Málaga, as well as an earlier retrospective "Wondertoonel" at the Frye Museum of Art in Seattle and Pasadena Museum of California Art. In 2017, Ryden was commissioned to create the set and costume design for a new production of Whipped Cream, put on by the American Ballet Theatre with choreography by Alexei Ratmansky. The work created by Ryden for the ballet were exhibited at the Gallery Met located at the Metropolitan Opera House. His newest show “Eye Yam” opens in October at Perrotin Gallery in Los Angeles, and he most recently exhibited a large work, “Creatura” at Roq la Rue, with all proceeds of the print release of the “Creatura” painting going to non-profit Creatura Wildlife Projects.

Mark Ryden currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
