We are thrilled to present a special spotlight on Spanish painter Carles Gomila. A successful painter in Europe (and founder of the famous Quarantine series of artist retreats in Menorca), Carles most recently presented “Strange Heaven” at the gallery, an exhibition of new works that are a sublime blend of mythic symbolism with a little dash of the lurid mid century pulp illustration. Dreamy yet provocative, Carles work features the feminine in her many aspects- the brave and noble warrior, the enigma, the femme fatale, and the here, the beautiful monster - the sphinx “cat lady” in her most ferocious aspect.
Painted softly in a lush, saturated palette, Carles work retains the air of the nocturnal, hypnotic and hazy, with the subjects seemingly considering the viewer as much as the viewer is considering them.
