We are very pleased to present a solo show by represented artist Carles Gomila. Based in Menorca, Spain, this enigmatic mostly self taught artist creates lush, mystically driven works that blend 19th century symbolism with the pop exotically tinged mid century illustration of pulp novels. Most works delve into the concept of the divine feminine, and all her aspects including the archetypal holy virgin as well as the monstrous destroyer aspect found in myths and stories through out all cultures. The saint and the witch are blended here, with a sense of reverence and understanding.
This show explores the mystical link women (and people in general) have with cats. Both maligned and revered through the ages, the archetype of the "cat lady" as spinster and or witch permeate our culture. The sphinx, a blend of both woman and cat, is seen as both a destroyer as well as a benevolent helper. Beyond all that thought though- is the everyday love we have for our most cherished feline friends- willing to to sacrifice everything to protect our tiny familiars.

Cats and I understand each other without words. Just weight, temperature, distance, the pressure of a paw, the decision to stay, the decision to leave.
I trust them more than I trust words.
I live with creatures who have spent thousands of years mastering something humans are still trying to learn.
We expect emotions to make sense...
A cat can scratch you and ask to be held five seconds later, and nothing about it feels false.
