Bub - “Mild Apocalypse”

We are very excited to welcome NW artist Ian Davis- who goes by the moniker Bub, to the gallery for his debut show "Mid Apocalypse", and his first solo show at Roq La Rue. Bub's work immediately caught our attention for its bold use of monochrome narratives imbued with a sassy sense of humor, poking fairly good natured fun of modern day societal issues. Each image is a riotous scene of disparate pop and cartoony characters reveling in a strange, slightly sinister universe.

"I approached creating Mild Apocalypse with mischievous energy. I love to bring storytelling, escapism and the fantastic into my art. Exploring personal themes is something I do rarely, however, and that was the route I chose to pursue with this show. This decision led to moments of creative inspiration that were cathartic, giddy and evil. I cackled like Gargamel while pulling damaged men, rotten family members and other assorted villains out of the closet and on to the paper. Zealots, mega-barons and C.H.U.D.s clamored to join the party, and I let them all in. Heck, I even provided snacks! I used my favorite medium, charcoal, because I knew it would help me render the earthy weight and expressiveness of these complicated characters. My hope is that you find some entertainment, and maybe some relief and commiseration (maybe even some comfort), while visiting the wasteland." - Bub
