Roq La Rue is very pleased to work with Los Angeles based painter Lola Gil. Based on a style she calls "Narrative Escapism", Gil's works exhibit a soft tension, with soft, creamy painting style contrasting with often tension filled narratives. Forher most recent show at the gallery, "Thirsty", Gil not only explores the title themes definition with narratives of drought and climate change, but also the more ambiguous slang term meaning an insatiable lust for life and creation.
Her latest work exhibits a formidable jump in style in both technical prowess as well as a tightened narrative running throughout out her work, and exhibits a gentle tension.

“Throughout my career I have always been a painter of narrative escapism, with my work evoking personal connections for each individual viewer. Because it is executed in a surreal way, it allows the viewer to create their own story and meaning.” - Lola Gil
