For the month of July, Roq La Rue is very pleased to present two stunning shows by Northwest based painters, Kari-Lise Alexander and Jeff Jacobson.

Kari-Lise Alexander has become widely known for her sensuous and mysterious paintings exploring the dark feminine. Often enigmatic in tone, her paintings often feature lush jewel tone botanicals and soft, dreamy portraits that evoke the strength behind vulnerability. This show, "Night Garden" is painted predominantly in hues of blue and violet with her trademark "Tilt Shift" focus on various aspects of her subjects, in which part of the images are blurred and other parts are crisp and in tight focus.

Jeff Jacobson (aka "Weirdo"- his nom de plume for his highly sought after murals that cover Seattle - if you've seen a mural in the city that turned your head it was probably one of Jeff's) makes his return to the gallery with a new show of paintings, that meld a light show techno-futurism with soft, organic infused portraiture of both humans and wildlife. Jacobson often uses earth materials as images in his paintings (crystals, flowers, birds) set in sci fi and geometric settings as a way to evoke a potential utopian and hopeful future he often refers to as "Post-Internet Hyperrealism".

Kari-Lise Alexander “Night Garden” :

“Reflecting on the artists experience and embracing my love affair with gardening, I created a body of work that encompasses both those relationships. I explore the darker side of what making art entails, often using body parts bursting with flora - signifying growth, hardship, and learned experiences. The floral motifs are infused with intense and highly saturated colors to give a sense of the familiarity, while remaining a bit off kilter and surreal. I invite the viewer to take the garden path, hoping what they experience is the dark beauty of being an artist.” - Kari-Lise Alexander

Jeff Jacobson “From Here Into The Parallels” :

“This small body of work is designed to show range and metaphorically plant 6 special seeds. Each of these has the potential to spin out on it own and still be part of the whole.  My work, as it is today, is about creating and maintaining a parallel eco-system of natural worlds and technology that we interact with. This dimension is not so different from our own, but different enough to keep us asking questions. I’m choosing, as is my style, to show an undercurrent of darkness while saturating the viewer in color and story. Over time I hope to expand this ecosystem and reveal the riddles of its nature.” - Jeff Jacobson
