Dan Quintana "Zip Gun Volt"
Chet Zar "Postapocalism"
Jeremy Bennett "Shadow Lands"
For October Roq la Rue is exhibiting three painters who work with "dark imagery", as a salute to the longer, colder hours of fall and the Halloween season.
Painter Dan Quintana is a Bosch for the 21st century, his immaculately rendered paintings depict a surreal limbo of dark characters engaged in nefarious activities. His color palette and technique reflect the style of the old masters, but the tone is undeniably 21st century with the addition of cars and sex.
Chet Zar is known for his film concept design work (including the recent Hellboy 2) but when he had free time he paints monster-like characters who seem to inhabit a film noir type world. His characters can appear ruthless and slightly maleficent or gruesome yet sympathetic.
Jeremy Bennett is also a concept artist for films (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) but also paints every chance he gets. His work often features a variety of mediums of media including acryics and watercolors, featuring blasted, desolate landscapes, pocked and ravaged by natural forces (and maybe supernatural forces as well!) He will be unveiling a new series of paintings for the show.
